From director Galen Knowles comes the remarkable story and journeys of his friend and snowboarder Brolin Mawejje, told in the film “Far From Home: Uganda to the Tetons.” After leaving his home country of Uganda at the age of 12, Mawejje moved to a small town in Massachusetts, where he encountered feelings of isolation and abandonment. Determined to overcome these challenges, Mawejje began snowboarding and found his niche—it allowed him to find freedom. Since then, the 20-year-old has moved west, first to Jackson Hole, WY, and later Salk Lake City, Utah. Mawejje is currently enrolled in a pre-med program and hopes to compete for Uganda in the next Winter Olympics.
