Six women and ten men are poised to compete for the U.S. Open halfpipe gold medal this weekend at Vail, Colorado. After a sunny day of semi finals, Kelly Clark leads the women’s category and China’sd Yiwei Zang holds first for the men.

With 31 riders competing in the mens pipe qualifiers, the level of riding was exceptional and anticipation was at an all time high to see who would earn a spot in the top 10 and go on to finals. Yiwei Zang’s run, scoring 93.0, included a method air, frontside double 1080, Cab double cork 1080 indy to mute grab, frontside double 1260, double barrel roll, and a frontside 1080 tailgrab. U.S.A’s Taylor Gold and Ben Ferguson came in at second and third, and we’ll certainly see more from them and the other eight riders at the finals tomorrow (Sat. March 8).

Also tomorrow: Slopestyle finals, beginning at 11:30 Am MST
