Recap: Jeremy Jones “No Words For The Way Down” Book Signing in Bellingham, WA
With her brand new Jones Hoverboard in hand, Donna Coen entered the Green Frog Acoustic Tavern in downtown Bellingham, WA. She stood in a line that reached from the dance floor to the front door, patiently waiting among the local shredders keen on meeting a legend. When her turn came, she approached Jeremy Jones wide-eyed. “I’ve watched all your video parts,” she said. “I’ve seen them so many times, I feel like I know you.”
Donna was not alone in her excitement to meet the big-mountain, foot-powered snowboard guru. On a mellow Wednesday evening, the bar was packed. Jeremy was in town to debut and sign copies of his new book, “No Words for the Way Down,” a project produced by Teton Gravity Research and crafted by the staff of frequency: The Snowboarder’s Journal. The book focuses upon the Deeper, Further, Higher movie trilogy, and serves as an alternative portal into a seven-year adventure that would change our perspective on what can be accomplished on a snowboard without the aid of helicopters and snow machines.Module: gallery_album

Drawing heavily upon Jeremy’s journals from the trilogy, as well as interviews with the riders and creators involved with the project, “No Words” explores the intimate thought process of all involved as they move through struggles and triumphs of creating a compelling visual experience. From the Tahoe backcountry to the Eastern Alaska Range, Antarctica to Svalbard and Innsbruck to Hakuba, it narrates the challenges of learning to climb and ride in a new way, questions of mortality, of family, of the highs and lows that come with months spent camped out in the backcountry, sometimes in pursuit of a single line.
Looking around the Green Frog that night, it was readily apparent that the community response to the book was a positive one. Between the sipping of a few beverages and the flipping of pages, every one of the 100-or-so attendees seemed moved by Jones’s honesty within the pages—and the stunning imagery in the 160-page, hardbound coffee table book certainly helped. There were even a few folks who made the drive down from Canada for their chance to meet Jeremy and be among the first to dive into a hand-signed copy of “No Words” and gain a new perspective on the trilogy that changed the way we see backcountry snowboarding.
