“I was at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics as the team manager for Burton, snapping some photos behind the scenes. With the team manager pass, I had access to different areas than the photo pass, so I was able to get shots inside the gate and witness the riders getting psyched to drop in. A lot of people wanted Heikki Sorsa to win. His riding was so good, he had a great attitude, and he had the mohawk. It’s too bad it didn’t work out [he was first in qualifying and seventh in the finals], but he still made an impression. Everyone loves a mohawk. Punk rock, baby!”
