Everyone Loves a Mohawk

Words and Photo Dean “Blotto” Gray “I was at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics as the team manager for Burton, snapping some photos behind the scenes. With the team manager pass, I had access to different areas than the photo pass, so I was able to get shots inside the gate and witness the riders getting psyched to drop in. A lot of people wanted Heikki Sorsa to win. His riding was so good, he had a great attitude, and he had the mohawk. It’s too bad it didn’t work out [he was first in qualifying and seventh in the finals], but he still made an impression. Everyone loves a mohawk. Punk rock, baby!”
