Donning his infamous Phoenix Suns Starter jacket—a constant reminder to never take snowboarding too seriously—Ben Shanks Kindlon turns heelside at Keefer Lake Lodge, BC. “I really should’ve turned toeside for the shot,” Ben says with a laugh. Photo: Colin Wiseman

Notes

I Hear You

The mountains have a lot to say.

When we hear them, we learn something new. Same goes for the longstanding trees firmly planted all along this planet’s palatial peaks and humble hills, as well as the more temporary inhabitants living among their twisted roots and weathered branches. Often it can be hard to hear them, even when you’re listening.

The older I get, the less I have to say. Nowadays, I try to listen more. The more I listen, the more I hear. The more I hear, the more I understand. The more I understand, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I learn to unlearn, then relearn, and sometimes even relearn that I’m relearning what I have already learned or somehow always knew.
