“Scotty James consistently started his runs at the Laax Open with a switch Mctwist pullback, a trick widely considered one of the most technically challenging in snowboarding. Its unique shape makes for a great photograph. With the combination of the crowd, rider, trick and legendary venue in Laax, Switzerland, the stars really aligned for this one.” Photo: Chris Witwicki

We Didn’t Get Arrested

“Nailing the timing between bird and rider wasn’t easy. Sometimes the pigeon flew off before Moritz Amsüss hit this spot in Oslo, Norway; other times, it flew the wrong way. Mid-session, an angry security guard threatened to call the police, and the bird mysteriously disappeared. But when the guard left, the pigeon returned. A few tries later, everything lined up for the shot. We didn’t get arrested, and the bird got to feast on our leftover sandwiches—it was a win-win for everyone.” Photo: Theo Acworth
