Xavier de Le Rue thought he could snowboard down this steep iceberg, and he did. How exactly? You would have to watch our film. His brother Victor followed him right after; they couldn’t help it. They saw something crazy, and they had to do it. Photo: Of A Lifetime

The Steep Parts of Antarctica

It wasn’t Xavier de Le Rue’s first time in Antarctica, but he couldn’t shake the feeling it might be his last. Fourteen years after his first expedition to the White Continent with Jeremy Jones while filming for Deeper, Xavier found himself aboard a 60-foot aluminum sailboat named Kotik, navigating the Lemaire Channel. Amidst ice carved fjords and distant breaches of whales, he felt a wave of déjà vu. The sight of penguin colonies lining the shores brought back memories of his earlier days.

This journey, however, was different. Accompanied by his brother Victor and daughter Mila, Xavier wasn’t just retracing his steps; he was creating a new narrative. Their goal was to capture this unique family experience on film, supported by a talented crew including filmmakers Jérôme Tanon and Christoph Thoresen, Director of Photography Guido Perrin, guide David Pujol, First Mate Scott Gallyon, Chef Adriana Enriquezl, and Captain Igor Bely.
