““Victor de Le Rue was on a mission to achieve his childhood dream of riding an iceberg. Throughout our trip to Antarctica [see page 048], we looked at every single one, searching for the perfect spot for a handplant or a backside air. Ever since Victor saw Gigi Rüf do his famous backside air in Greenland [in 2014] he had been obsessed.
“When we finally found an iceberg that worked, we were on our way to another spot, so we left an orange buoy with a GPS on it. The next day, the frozen ice had drifted several miles due to the currents. Being huge and mostly flat, we weren’t too worried about the iceberg flipping over, so Victor took his time with multiple attempts.
“ I was supposed to film the action throughout the trip, but for this one I told the camera crew, ‘You’re on your own; I’m taking photos!’”
