Most years, the Pacific Northwest is blessed with copious amounts of snow and abundant freeride terrain. This isn’t one of those years. The silver lining? Plenty of sunny skies and soft snow. And when you throw in a creative terrain park like the one at Stevens Pass, WA, it’s a recipe for good times aplenty.

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon with temps pushing into the 50s on-hill yesterday, warm enough to provoke a few seasonally-confused dudes to ride in basketball shorts. And although the Cascadian snowpack isn’t anywhere near its usual mid-March proportions, the folks at Stevens have done an admirable job building a top-to-bottom setup with enough creative features to keep you occupied for days. It begins with a three-pack of small-to-medium sized tabletops, with a few funky transfer options among them. Then, a double-line rail garden before emptying into the larger waterfall jump. A quick groomer transfer and the lower section also provides some take-er-easy boxes, larger rails and gap/transfer possibilities.

With 41 features all told—not including a developing water ride near the bottom—the Stevens Pass terrain park kept the good times in session until the sun dipped over the back of Cowboy Mountain and sent us to the parking lot for a tailgate session.

Thanks to Jules and the park crew for providing in a year when Mother Nature has been a little bit stingy. The Washington snowboard scene is rolling along just fine in 2015, and it can be found in abundance these days at Stevens Pass.
