Johnny McCormack

JMac, as Johnny McCormack is known, is a hustling New Zealander who spends his time chasing an endless winter in a bihemispherical migration from the South Island to Whistler. A dedicated photographer, his work has paid off, landing him a photo editor job down south and many remarkeable images to show for his travels up north. Indeed, he is one of a small handful of Kiwi photogs who have broken into the North American market, and his clean imagery is the product of countless hours of hard work. From the club fields of New Zealand to the snowmobile trail of Revelstoke, his images reflect a life spent on the road, chasing that next perfect moment.

There have been many times throughout this past decade when I have questioned my insatiable quest for fresh lines and unexplored terrain around the globe—in particular, the Northern Hemisphere that has left me broke, sick and homeless upon returning to the South Pacific. But the trophies to show for it—an updated archive and a bounty of new stock—make up for all the challenges and setbacks I have faced along the way. So each year I commit myself to this transient lifestyle a little more, paying for new gear and hardware, expanding on minimal budgets and international itineraries.

Hailing from the small set of exposed islands at the bottom of the Pacific naturally brings a unique perspective, set of skills and attitude when venturing along this road. The New Zealander’s laid-back attitude is inherited from the “no red tape, no liabilities, no questions asked” policies of Southern Australasia…
