The Middle of Somewhere with Colin Adair

From the Whistler backcountry to Sonora Pass, CA, the streets of SLC and the heart of the Andes, Colin Adair spends his life chasing the great white hope. His photo essay speaks to a season on the road, and all the moments that make or break a photographic journey in the world of snowboarding.

Riders, crews, countries, storms, miles, languages—they are all factors in the success or failure of a mission and one little ripple in time or space can throw it all off. Then you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere with a whole lot of useless technology.

This collection of images tells the story of a single season in the life of one of the strangest and best I could ever hope for. From Argentina to Alaska, you never know what you are going to get—the juxtaposition of people, place, and landscape becomes the moment. For better or worse, ‘til death do us part, this is a small part of my life behind the lens.
