Andrew Hardingham & Jonas Guinn

Andrew Hardingham and Jonas Guinn are two of a kind…a very unique kind. Hailing from the eastern edge of the Canadian Rockies, both came up on the contest scene in the ’90s and later became freeriding machines. They share an unconventional sense of humor, and haven’t compromised their values in order to make it on the snowboard scene. Andrew Hardingham, Jonas Guinn a case of light beer and everything from failure to the Olympic dream and saving a dying horse.

I recently received an email from Andrew Hardingham promoting this year’s Sandbox premier in his hometown of Banff, AB. “I think a good theme this year is ‘show your boobs and get my respect,’” he wrote. “Thoughts?”

With a sense of humor lying somewhere beyond George Carlin and the Trailer Park Boys—shockingly dirty at times, but also laced with tongue-in-cheek intelligence—Andrew has built his reputation as a snowboarder as much for his questionable line choices as his questionable antics. It is a combination that works for Andrew—over the past decade he has morphed from an up-and-coming contest jock to stake his claim as one of the most unique individuals in the snowboard industry, both as a rider, a writer, and now with his underground films like “Throw Your Panties.”

Fellow Albertan Jonas Guinn grew up riding with Andrew and got a similar start as a snowboarder, chasing Olympic dreams and showing up at major contests worldwide. He also earned a reputation by dropping into sketchy, rock-strewn lines in the Canadian Rockies and beyond, pushing the limits of just what constitutes logical snowboarding terrain…
